A Japanese university student, bored with his uninspired life, discovers a book that details the "hazards" of New York. Seeking an escape and inspiration, he travels to the city, only to quickly confront its dangers when he is mugged and left stranded. Fortunately, he meets two local punks who take him in. His time in New York dramatically shifts, becoming a whirlwind of excitement and peril. Together, they embrace a wild lifestyle, threatening people for car rides and robbing delis for food. This reckless path, however, inevitably leads them into a confrontation with the police. A frantic chase ensues, resulting in the tragic death of one friend and the imprisonment of another. Deeply affected by these transformative experiences, the student ultimately returns to Japan, forever changed and now possessing a fierce new desire to truly live.
