Hand in Hand & Heart to Heart opens as Liu Fang, a Beijing youth, flees his home after accidentally pushing a person off a cliff. Desperate, he begins an arduous journey through the snow, determined to find Lei Xiao Man. Overwhelmed by the harsh conditions, Liu Fang collapses, only to be found by a passing carriage and taken to the local Corps. There, with the crucial help of Lei Xiao Man and other kind individuals, he is granted a place to stay, finding an unexpected sanctuary. This poignant film then intimately portrays the emotional experiences and profound human connections forged within the Great Northern Wilderness Corps during the challenging early 1970s. It is a compelling narrative of survival, shared humanity, and the enduring resilience of the human spirit amidst adversity.
