Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum delves into the eerie history of Gonjiam Psychiatric Hospital, an abandoned site famous for its dark past: 42 patients died mysteriously and the director disappeared in 1979. Now a magnet for ghostly rumors and recognized as one of the planet's freakiest locations by CNN, it becomes the stage for an internet broadcaster's live horror show. A group of recruits is assembled to explore the allegedly haunted asylum and stream their terrifying ordeal.

Initially, the show's hosts orchestrate elaborate tricks on the participants to maximize viewership. Yet, as they venture further into the desolate confines of Gonjiam Mental Hospital, the fabricated scares rapidly give way to authentic, terrifying encounters. The boundary between performance and reality vanishes, leaving the group to face a nightmare far more sinister than any planned trick, battling the asylum's genuine, malevolent presence.
