In 1976 on the island of Yamijima, a horrifying event occurs when the sea turns red, a siren wails, and the entire population disappears except for one terrified survivor. Twenty-nine years later, Shinichi moves to this remote island with his daughter Yuki and his sick son Hideo, hoping the environment will help the boy recover. While the friendly Dr. Minamida welcomes them, the other residents are sullen and unwelcoming. Settling into their neglected forest home, Yuki receives a frantic warning from a neighbor: do not walk alone at night, stay away from the steel tower on the hill, and never go outside if the siren sounds. As Yuki uncovers the island's eerie folk religion, strange graffiti, and unsettling folk songs, Hideo keeps wandering off. When the ancient siren suddenly begins to wail, Yuki must face the horrifying truth behind the warnings.
