Set in Beijing during the summer of 2013, EX Files follows Meng Yun, an ambitious thirty-one-year-old running an ad agency with his university friend Luo Qian. At his ex-girlfriend Li Xiaojie's wedding, Meng Yun meets Xia Lu, a hotel employee seated at the ex-girlfriends' table. After a chaotic wedding brawl, the two escape together and quickly start dating. Their romance seems perfect, but complications soon arise. Meng Yun grows jealous of Zhao Ming, an older man invited by Luo Qian. Meanwhile, friends Xiaowen and Yu Fei hit it off but encourage the new couple to reveal their pasts. When Xia Lu's South Korean playboy ex, Park Eunho, and Meng Yun's former flames Shang Dan and Mengmeng begin popping up in their lives, trust is tested. Despite claiming they are not curious about each other’s history, the constant presence of these former lovers begins to severely strain Meng Yun and Xia Lu's easygoing relationship.
