Eight Taels Of Gold is a bittersweet comedy that explores the emotional joys and sorrows of returning home. Ten years after fleeing South China for New York during the Cultural Revolution, Slim Sammo Hung decides to return to his homeland. Having lived illegally in America, Slim hopes to reunite with his family, but he quickly discovers that China has changed beyond recognition. Lost and overwhelmed, he must rely on the guidance of an old female acquaintance and her brother to navigate his way home. Their journey is filled with comical mishaps and misunderstandings, but as they travel together, Slim starts to develop deeper feelings for his companion. When they finally reach his destination, Slim is confronted with a family he barely recognizes, realizing that both his home and his life have transformed forever. With fate still holding tricks up its sleeve, Slim must navigate the complex reality of his homecoming.
