Egao no Hosoku is a heartwarming drama series that follows the unexpected journey of Yumi, a twenty-three-year-old office worker who suddenly loses her job. Desperate for work, she rushes to a part-time job interview at a publishing company. Having just come from a friend's wedding, Yumi is still wearing a kimono because she had no time to change. While searching for a private place to change out of her outfit, she accidentally stumbles into an editorial meeting room. Inside, the popular comic book writer Reijiro Sakurai is discussing his next project. Sakurai plans to lock himself away at a hot spring for three months to focus on his writing. Amused and intrigued by Yumi's sudden appearance in her kimono, Sakurai makes a surprising comment. He suggests that if Yumi were to join him, he wouldn't mind being away for so long. This chance encounter marks the beginning of an unpredictable and charming story.
