"Damp Season" delves into the strained relationship of young Chinese couple Dong and Juan, residing in Shenzhen. Dong, a security guard at an old amusement park, harbors dreams of becoming a stage actor. Juan works at a flower shop, making deliveries across the city. As their connection falters, both find themselves drawn into secret relationships. Dong befriends Yuan, a woman he meets at the park, while Juan is captivated by Long, a middle-aged man who frequently orders flowers.

Through these new encounters with more mature individuals, Dong and Juan begin to gain fresh perspectives on life and the world around them. However, these burgeoning relationships prove to be as complex and unfulfilling as their original bond. Set during the sweltering damp season in southern China, where humidity soars above 90 percent, the oppressive atmosphere becomes a symbolic character. It perfectly mirrors the entangled lives of the four individuals and their profound lack of communication, creating a suffocating sensation as if everyone is trapped within a vast, inescapable fish tank.
