Citizen Dog is a whimsical romance and satirical comedy set in a vibrant, color-splashed Bangkok, directed by Wisit Sasanatieng. The story follows Pod, an aimless country bumpkin who moves to the big city to work at a tinned sardine factory. After a bizarre accident where he chops off his finger and accidentally packs it in a can, Pod embarks on a comical quest through supermarkets to retrieve it. This life-changing incident prompts him to become a security guard, where he meets Jin, a dreamy maid who constantly carries a mysterious white book she cannot read. As Pod falls for Jin, he tries to help her realize her dream of deciphering the book. In this surreal version of Bangkok, locals grow tails, and Pod’s dead grandmother returns as a chatty gecko to offer life lessons. Citizen Dog beautifully captures an unusual love story set against a playful yet ironic portrait of a city that offers false dreams and real disillusionment.
