In the Chinese fantasy drama Cai Shen You Dao, an indifferent Taoist named Youdao accidentally moves an examiner's clay doll during a simple examination. As punishment, he is relegated to counting copper coins all day. Hating the materialistic atmosphere of the place, Youdao decides to break heavenly rules to escape his divine duties. During his antics, he playfully teases the Eight Princess, which unexpectedly awakens her genuine romantic feelings for him. Eager to marry him and become a god grandma, the Eight Princess pushes him to secure the title of the God of Wealth. To settle the matter, the Jade Emperor sends Youdao and his competitor, the big brother, to the mortal world to compete through reincarnation.
