In the chilling film "Bunshinsaba," struggling writer Xiao Ai faces a double blow: her long-awaited horror novel is rejected, and her abusive ex-husband, Qi Kun, recently released from prison for domestic violence, is now relentlessly searching for her and their young, asthmatic son, Xiao Xin. Seeking refuge and a peaceful environment to reignite her creativity, Xiao Ai accepts an offer from her doctor friend Yinan to stay in an old, remote house.

However, this secluded sanctuary soon proves to be anything but peaceful. While exploring the mysterious dwelling, Xiao Ai stumbles upon a collection of faded photographs depicting a young woman and her child, their faces eerily cut out. Intrigued and desperate for inspiration, she decides to incorporate these unsettling images into her next story. This decision, however, unleashes a torrent of unexplainable and terrifying events that begin to plague the remote house, turning her quiet escape into a horrifying nightmare as the past bleeds into their present.
