In the sci-fi romance film Andromedia, Hiroko Shimabukuro stars as Mai Hitomi, a young woman whose life is tragically cut short. Right after sharing a sweet first kiss with her boyfriend, Yuu, Mai is suddenly hit by a truck. Devastated by the loss, her father, a scientist, decides to bring her back in a different form. Since he had completely scanned her before her tragic death, he is able to recreate Mai as an artificial intelligence. The film beautifully depicts the continuing love story between Yuu and this digital copy of Mai. Bound by the limitations of technology, the two lovers can only interact across a computer terminal. Andromedia explores a deep, emotional connection that transcends physical existence, showing how love persists even when separated by a digital screen.
