Affliction unveils the unsettling secrets haunting a family. Hasan, a psychologist in Jakarta, hides his estranged mother, Dayu, who suffers from worsening dementia in Central Java. His wife, Nina, traumatized by her own mother's bizarre death, insists the family bring Dayu to Jakarta, fearing a similar tragic end. After Dayu refuses, Hasan returns to work, leaving Nina and their children amidst unsettling paranormal activities and Dayu’s sudden, mysterious death. Nina's desperate search for answers leads her to uncover chilling news clippings and a horrifying revelation: Hasan murdered his friend Dimas years ago, burying him under a tree. Nina flees with the children, but Hasan, gripped by a dark epiphany, attacks her. A neighbor, related to Dimas and overhearing Hasan's confession, intervenes, ending Hasan's life and finally unearthing the long-buried truth.
