Description:

A Scene at the Sea introduces Shigeru, a hearing-impaired sanitation worker whose life changes dramatically after he discovers a broken surfboard. Inspired, Shigeru, accompanied by his girlfriend Takako who shares his condition, delves into the challenging world of surfing. Initially, his attempts to ride waves are met with failure and taunts from local surfers. Yet, their unwavering dedication leads them to the beach daily, an persistence that eventually impresses a surf shop owner who provides Shigeru with gear and a contest entry. Ironically, Shigeru is disqualified from his first competition for missing an announcement, a direct consequence of his hearing impairment. Undiscouraged, his profound love for surfing takes over, leading him to earn the respect of the local surfing community and achieve a respectable finish in a second contest. As summer gives way to colder weather, a growing distance begins to subtly form between Shigeru and Takako.
