Description:

A Long Way Home depicts the challenging journey of a forestry community adapting to monumental changes. In the late 1990s, the forestry industry's production cuts and layoffs force Gu Changshan's 923 work team to confront an uncertain future. Amidst this upheaval, Gu Changshan adopts Xingjie, the orphaned son of a late colleague, ensuring his education. As younger workers leave, Gu Changshan innovatively leads the remaining team into a family ecological forest project, fostering new livelihoods.

The challenges persist into 2007 when a resettlement project for remote areas once again tests the 923 team. Xingjie returns, undertaking the vital task of mobilizing immigrants and driving crucial forestry reforms. By 2014-2015, with new logging restrictions, Xingjie champions ecological protection, guiding his community towards a better life that prioritizes sustainable development, embracing the philosophy that "blue waters and green mountains" are more valuable than traditional resources.
