In the action-thriller A Better Tomorrow, Kim Hyuk is a high-ranking Busan mobster haunted by a tragic past, having left his mother and younger brother Kim Chul behind during a North Korea escape. While on a business trip to Thailand, Kim Hyuk is betrayed by a new recruit, Jung TaeMin, leading to his imprisonment. Seeking revenge, his loyal friend Lee YoungChoon attacks the rival gang but ends up crippled. Three years later, Kim Hyuk returns to Busan to find a changed world. Lee YoungChoon is washing cars, while the treacherous Jung TaeMin has risen to become a powerful crime boss.
