Description:

Set in Guizhou province in 1975, "11 Flowers" follows eleven-year-old Wang Han, whose family relocated from Shanghai under the government's Third Front movement. Living with his artistic father who encourages freedom, his strict mother who worries about money, and his younger sister, Wang Han navigates life as the Cultural Revolution nears its end.

At school, he and his friends spy on fellow student Xie Juehong, who mysteriously faints after a meeting with the headmistress. Wang Han is later chosen to lead group gymnastics but needs a new white shirt, which his mother reluctantly buys material for using valuable coupons. While playing by the river, Wang Han's new shirt is stolen by a man on the run. The fugitive, who uses the shirt to staunch his wounds, is revealed to be Xie Juehong's elder brother. He promises to replace the shirt if Wang Han keeps his hiding place a secret, placing the boy in a challenging situation.
