Nankyoku Tairiku is a captivating Japanese drama produced to commemorate the 60th anniversary of TBS. The gripping story follows a historic national project in February 1957, where eleven courageous members are sent to explore the harsh environments of the South Pole for the very first time. Assisting them on this perilous journey across Antarctica is a loyal dogsled team of nineteen Sakhalin huskies. However, when the expedition team must return to Japan a year later, extreme bad weather forces them to make the heartbreaking decision to leave their beloved dogs behind. Haunted by this choice, Kuramochi Takeshi and several other members decide to join a third expedition in January 1959. Driven by hope and guilt, they return to the frozen continent to ascertain the fate of the abandoned Sakhalin huskies. This emotional drama beautifully portrays the powerful bond between humans and animals against all odds.
