In the quiet drama Blowfish, a small town harbors silent secrets. Everyone knows the Coach’s wife, Flora, ran off, but no one talks to him about it. By day, he teaches baseball, and by night, he eats wonton noodles with shrimp balls alone, keeping his room exactly as Flora left it. Enter XiaoZhun, a polite, sheepish department store elevator operator. After catching her boyfriend cheating, she decides to find a better home for her pet blowfish and brings it to the Coach’s trashed house. Under the surreal blue light of his aquarium, they make passionate love. XiaoZhun begins wearing Flora’s colorful clothes, deciding she wants a new life pretending to be his wife. Her baby voice sounds so much like Flora’s that the Coach lets her stay. They live as husband and wife, but the closer they get to normalcy, the stranger they become, until one day the Coach wants to learn her real name.
